IntelliScan D-1000 is an AI-driven colony counting solution. Powered by on-device AI models, it performs real-time image analysis to yield accurate counts for a wide range of culture media and growth conditions. Thanks to its integrated neural processing unit (NPU), high-res touch screen, flexible lighting setup, the system packs instant counting, superhuman precision, and streamlined user experience into the footprint of a letter-size paper. Data is secured in a controlled-access database with user/role management, electronic records, and electronic signature capability. Overall, the system is ideal for ensuring compliance under tightening regulatory oversight and increasing the throughput of your lab.
Free up space
In the era of AI, you should not need a “workstation” just to count the petri dishes. The IntelliScan D-1000 fits on any workbench. Where conventional colony counters require a dedicated monitor, keyboard, and significant desk space, the D-1000 consolidates everything into a single compact unit no larger than a sheet of paper.
Let there be light
The D-1000’s does not sacrifice for lighting versatility for size. The lighting design uses innovative computational photography techniques, resulting in crystal-clear bright-field, dark-field, and epi-illumination images that reveal features that any single mode would miss. Drag the sliders to see the difference.
Edge cases? not an issue
Thanks to imaging optics designed in-house for this task, the D-1000 can see objects on the edge unobstructed by the lids of dishes, significantly improving the accuracy of colony identification overall, lowering the risk of false positives and false negatives.
Superhuman resolution and precision
Using state-of-the-art imaging sensor, the D-1000 achieves unmatched image resolution, delivering unprecedented performance in challengine conditions where colonies down to 0.5mm, invisible to the naked eye, are resolved and counted.
Right figure shows the USAF-1951 resolution target as viewed in our system compared the best among competition. Series 3 is completely invisible to the naked eye, yet our optics resolves it easily.
Using an fully-automatic high-throughput incubation / image acquisition platform purposely built for data collection, we gained access to virtually unlimited high quality labelled colony image data, which we used to fine tune large fundationally models that is fliexible enough to work for all medium, all lighting conditions, and all types of microorganisms.
Right figure shows how our model pushes the boundaries of detection precision and recall.
Don’t take our word for it, see for yourself
Below we show a few detection results using our on-device model and images captured on device. You can zoom into the images to see the details, and toggle the colony labels on and off.
Want your old setup back? No problem
The D-1000 supports working with an external monitor (plus keyboard and mouse), or connection from a client app installable onto a Windows PC, which connects to it over Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.
21 CFR Part 11 compliance
The D-1000 is fully compliant with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic signature and electronic records requirements. It implements identity-based permissions that by default are grouped into 3 roles of operator, auditor, and administrator. All interactions with the device that affect the counting results require electronic signature and is recorded in a secure, on-device database that is immutable once created.
Below, the general workflow of the device is illustrated.
